Summer Workout Tips for Glowing Skin

When summer hits, the motivation to get outside and work up a sweat often comes naturally. The long days and warm weather make it the perfect time to focus on fitness. However, summer workouts can bring unique challenges like excessive sweating, skin irritation, and odour. To keep yourself feeling fresh, healthy, and confident we promise that is better to incorporate natural skincare and natural deodorant into your routine. It will enhance your body’s ability to sweat, recover and metabolise. Here are the Biode team’s five favourite summer workout tips that will help you maintain glowing skin and stay fresh throughout the season.

  1. Hydrate Inside and Out

Staying hydrated is the foundation of any successful summer workout routine. When you’re sweating more due to heat and exercise, your body loses fluids rapidly, which can leave your skin dry and irritated. Add a small pinch of sea salt to your waterbottle to replace the salts you sweat out. Coconut water is another great way to replenish your electrolytes.

Hydration isn’t just about drinking water—though that’s crucial—but also about keeping your skin moisturized and resilient.

Before heading out for your workout, apply a hydrating, non-comedogenic moisturizer that’s part of a natural skincare routine. Look for ingredients like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and natural oils such as jojoba or rosehip, which help lock in moisture without clogging your pores. These ingredients soothe the skin and prevent the post-exercise dryness that often accompanies outdoor activities in the sun.

Tip: If you’re prone to sweating a lot, spritz your skin with a facial mist during breaks in your workout. You can make your own the night before with water, slices of cucumber and a little aloe vera gel. This will keep your skin feeling refreshed while giving you a mid-exercise hydration boost.

  1. Choose Breathable Workout Clothes

The clothes you wear during summer workouts can have a big impact on your skin and overall comfort. Opt for breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics that allow your skin to breathe and reduce the buildup of sweat. This minimizes irritation, heat rashes, and breakouts that often occur when sweat gets trapped on the skin.

Natural fibres like cotton, bamboo, or blends that include these materials can be especially gentle on the skin. These fabrics absorb moisture while allowing air to circulate, preventing the bacteria growth that causes odour and skin irritation.

Additionally, wearing looser-fitting clothing can help reduce the friction that often leads to chafing, especially in areas like the thighs, underarms, and chest. Pair your natural deodorant with clothes that support breathability, and you’ll feel fresher and more comfortable during your workout.

  1. Use a Natural Deodorant That Works with Your Body

One of the most important aspects of summer workouts is finding a deodorant that keeps you smelling fresh, without harming your skin. Natural deodorants are an excellent option, as they skip the harsh chemicals found in traditional deodorants, such as aluminium, parabens, and synthetic fragrances.

Switching to a natural deodorant can help protect your skin from irritation while still keeping odour at bay. Ingredients like baking soda, magnesium, and essential oils (such as tea tree or lavender) fight odour-causing bacteria naturally. Arrowroot powder and kaolin clay, commonly found in natural deodorants, absorb sweat without clogging pores.

It’s important to remember that natural deodorants aren’t antiperspirants, meaning they won’t block your body’s natural sweating process. This is actually a good thing, especially for your skin, as it allows your body to detox naturally. When you’re sweating out toxins during a workout, you want a deodorant that works with your body, not against it.

  1. Cleanse Gently Post-Workout

After your summer workout, one of the best things you can do for your skin is cleanse immediately. Sweat mixed with dirt and oil can clog pores, leading to breakouts or irritation. However, you’ll want to avoid harsh cleansers that strip your skin of its natural oils, which can leave it overly dry and vulnerable to environmental factors like sun exposure.

Choose a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser that aligns with your natural skincare routine. Ingredients like chamomile, calendula, and green tea extract are perfect for soothing post-workout skin. These natural ingredients cleanse the skin while reducing inflammation, making them ideal for hot, sweaty conditions.

If you’re not able to shower immediately after your workout, try using cleansing wipes that are made from natural ingredients. Look for ones that contain aloe, witch hazel, or tea tree oil to wipe away sweat and bacteria without drying out your skin and make sure they are completely biodegradable.

  1. Exfoliate and Protect Your Skin

Summer workouts, especially those done outdoors, can expose your skin to a lot of environmental stressors like UV rays, pollution, and dirt. Exfoliating regularly helps remove dead skin cells and impurities, leaving your skin smoother and less prone to congestion.

When exfoliating, choose a gentle exfoliant with natural ingredients, such as sugar or charcoal, to avoid microtears in your skin. Exfoliating 2-3 times a week can help keep your skin glowing and clear, especially after sweaty workouts. Charcoal is especially good for post workout skin that is likely to break out as it is deeply detoxifying.

Equally important is protecting your skin from the sun. Always apply a natural, broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher before outdoor exercise. Look for mineral-based sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are less likely to irritate sensitive skin compared to chemical sunscreens. Protecting your skin from the sun is essential to maintaining a healthy complexion while keeping wrinkles and sun damage at bay.

Your summer workout routine doesn’t have to come at the expense of your skin. By focusing on hydration, breathable clothing, gentle cleansing, and using natural skincare and natural deodorant, you can protect your skin while staying fresh and active. Here’s to a radiant summer workout experience!
